Landsat 8 Signal Fire Imagery

These images were acquired from Landsat 8 imagery flown pre-burn in April 2014 and during the fire on May 15, 2014. Each image contains a slider to compare two images.

Notice that the fire is hard to detect in this natural color image.

Shortwave Infrared False Color - Bands 7,5,4

Notice how much easier the fire is to detect using this false color shortwave infrared image. The small, dark magenta blob is the current Signal Fire. The large, light red area to the east is the burn scar from last year's Silver Fire.

Thermal Infrared - Bands 10,5,2

Again, notice how much easier the fire is to detect in this false color thermal infrared image. The brighter the color, the hotter the temperature of the surface.
