Landsat 8 Assayii Lake Fire Imagery
These images were acquired from Landsat 8 imagery flown pre-burn on June 7, 2014 and during the fire on June 23, 2014. Each image contains a slider to compare two images. If viewing the images on your desktop, hover your mouse over the image and a green slider will appear over the image. If using a mobile device, tap on the left or right side of the image.
Natural Color - Bands 4,3,2
Notice that the fire is hard to detect in this natural color image.

Shortwave Infrared False Color - Bands 7,5,4
Notice how much easier the fire is to detect using this false color shortwave infrared image. The dark, magenta blob is the current Assayii Lake Fire.

Thermal Infrared - Bands 10,5,2
Again, notice how much easier the fire is to detect in this false color thermal infrared image. The brighter the color, the hotter the temperature of the surface.
